Leatherhead-based medical devices company MatOrtho has appointed Simon Cartmell as a non-executive director, following a recent investment by private equity firm, Connection Capital.

Cartmell will support the management team as MatOrtho aims for international growth and development pathways in the wake of this recent investment.

Cartmell has over 35 years of leadership experience in the life-science and healthcare sector, having held senior positions in the pharmaceutical, biotech, and med-tech companies. He served as COO with Vanguard Medica, latterly Vernalis plc, CEO of Celltech Pharmaceuticals, executive director of Celltech plc, and CEO of Apa Tech Ltd.

He subsequently joined life-science VC Imperial Innovations plc, and later became an operating partner at IP Group plc. He currently serves as chairman of OssDsign AB, Oviva AG, and as a non-executive director at Axis Spine Technologies Ltd and NuvoAir AB. He was also awarded an OBE in 2016 for his services to the healthcare sector.
